KOTA SAMARAHAN: Narcotics police arrested a burger stall operator for allegedly possessing suspected cannabis at Oxford Park Avenue here last night (Jan 18).
The 41-year-old, originally from Johor, was detained during a stop-and-check operation outside a burger stall at around 7.20 pm after police suspected him of being involved in drug abuse activities.
A search of the stall’s storage area led officers to a green-and-white metal container containing dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.
Kota Samarahan police chief Supt Damataries Lautin said the seized drugs weighed around 5.20g and were estimated to be worth RM156.
“The suspect was arrested for further investigation, where an initial urine screening test returned positive for THC.
“During questioning, he admitted the drugs were for his own consumption at the stall, which he owns.
“He claimed the cannabis was obtained for free from an individual known only by the nickname ‘Abang’ while fishing in Kuching,” he said.
Further investigation found that the suspect was believed to have been abusing drugs since early 2023 and has no prior record.
Damataries said efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest ‘Abang’
The suspect is currently remanded at Kota Samarahan police lock-up to facilitate investigations under Section 6 and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
