KUCHING: A senior citizen was ordered by the Magistrates’ Court to be bound over for good behaviour for six months after driving dangerously and provoking another motorist.

Teo Bong Chee, 75, nodded in understanding as the charge under Section 67 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) was read out before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan.

Case facts revealed that on Jan 23 at around 10.16am, the complainant was driving a Perodua Bezza along Jalan Batu Kawa when the incident occurred.

A Proton Persona, driven by the Teo, overtook in a dangerous manner and nearly collided with the complainant’s vehicle. Startled, the complainant honked at the vehicle.

The situation escalated at a traffic light, where Teo exited her car and shouted at the complainant.

She reportedly claimed she knew many officers in the Road Transport Department (RTD) and warned the complainant to be careful.

When the traffic light turned green, she accelerated and continued to provoke the complainant, almost causing another collision.

The complainant subsequently lodged a police report for further investigation.

Authorities determined that the incident stemmed from a traffic misunderstanding, with no criminal offence detected and no accidents or property damage reported.

The court ordered Teo to be bound over for good behaviour for six months, with a RM2,000 surety and a local guarantor.

The bond aims to prevent recurrence and ensure she maintains peace and good conduct in the future.

The prosecution was handled by Inspector Nurshafiqa Nyaie Ilin while Teo was unrepresented.
