KUCHING: The Sessions Court here today sentenced a general worker to 62 months’ imprisonment and one stroke of the cane for repeated drug use in 2025.

The 32-year-old Kamar Bahari pleaded guilty to the charge read before Judge Iris Awen Jon.

Kamar was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39C(1)(b) of the same Act.

Under Section 39C(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, a person convicted is liable to a jail term of up to seven years, and whipped up to three strokes.

The court also ordered Kamar to undergo two years of police supervision after serving his prison sentence.

According to the charge sheet, Kamar committed the offence on May 28, 2025 at 1.35am at the Kuching district police headquarters (IPD Kuching), where he was found to have administered amphetamine and methamphetamine into his body.

The facts of the case revealed that police arrested Kamar and subjected him to a drug test.

An initial screening test showed that he was positive for both amphetamine and methamphetamine.

A police report was subsequently lodged, and he was arrested under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The urine sample was later sent to the Pathology Department of Sarawak General Hospital, and the report confirmed that the accused tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

Kamar had two previous convictions under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act, following arrests on May 31, 2023 and Jan 22, 2024.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Asmawi Nur Haqim Mokhtar prosecuted, while Kamar was unrepresented.
