KOTA SAMARAHAN: Stakan assemblyman Datuk Hamzah Brahim distributed aid to 68 asnaf during the annual Ziarah Ramadan programme at Masjid Al-Malik Uni Garden, while also contributing RM2,000 to support mosque activities and administration.

The beneficiaries included 44 residents from Taman Uni Garden, eight from Kampung Merdang Gayam, and 16 from Kampung Merdang Lumut.

They form part of more than 1,000 asnaf identified across the Stakan constituency, who are set to receive aid in stages throughout this year’s Ziarah Ramadan programme.

“Alhamdulillah, we managed to increase the number of recipients this year, thanks to contributions from friends who supported our efforts. Insya-Allah, if given the opportunity next year, I will strive to secure more aid for those in need,” he said during his speech at the Ziarah Ramadan N17 Stakan programme on Sunday (Mar 8).

Hamzah also highlighted broader development initiatives, noting that he had previously channelled RM50,000 to the Masjid Al-Malik management committee to support operational requirements.

Looking ahead, the expansion project for Masjid Al-Malik Uni Garden is expected to begin soon. The mosque, which currently accommodates 800 congregants, will see its capacity rise to over 1,000 people after the upgrade.

The proposed expansion includes additional prayer space, a funeral management facility, upgraded toilets, a taller minaret, and dedicated areas for religious classes.

Hamzah reaffirmed his commitment to supporting such developments as part of his role as the elected representative for the area.

“As the people’s representative, it is my duty to assist with development efforts, not only for this mosque but for all mosques within the DUN Stakan constituency,” he added.

Also present at the event were the deputy head of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Stakan Branch, Tuah Jini; chairman of the Masjid Al-Malik Uni Garden Management Committee, Abdullah Daraup; secretary of PBB Stakan Branch, Sarkawi Suhaili; and other representatives.
