SIBU: The Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Bawang Assan has activated its full election machinery ahead of the Sarawak State Election, launching a constituency-wide campaign to retain the N53 seat.

The move was announced following the branch committee meeting on Sunday (July 5), where Bawang Assan Assemblyman and branch chairman Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh instructed all party members to fully mobilise under the campaign directive, “Go All Out, Reach Every Community.”

According to the branch secretariat, the party has now entered full election readiness, reflecting its determination to retain the constituency under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition.

A key component of the campaign will be an extensive constituency-wide outreach programme led personally by Wong.

Together with members of the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) and the branch’s community service teams, Wong, who is also PDP senior vice president, will visit every Chinese-majority village and all 105 Iban longhouses throughout Bawang Assan to engage directly with residents.

“Our mission is to engage people face-to-face and listen to them heart-to-heart. Politics must be about serving people’s everyday needs. We will visit every household, listen to genuine concerns, and help resolve the most pressing issues affecting the people. We want every resident of Bawang Assan to know that we will always stand firmly by their side,” the secretariat said.

The branch said it has also developed a more systematic engagement strategy for urban communities to ensure that every neighbourhood and voter receives adequate attention during the campaign.

In preparation for the election, the branch will organise a series of grassroots leadership training camps and workshops over the coming weeks to strengthen coordination and improve campaign execution.

“The branch requires a highly coordinated team with strong execution capabilities. Through these targeted training programmes, key grassroots leaders from across Bawang Assan will be brought together to strengthen communication, enhance teamwork and maximise our campaign effectiveness within the shortest possible time,” the secretariat said.

During the meeting, branch committee members unanimously endorsed Wong to once again contest the N53 Bawang Assan seat under the PDP as a component party of GPS.

The secretariat described the coming state election as more than a campaign to retain the seat, saying it is also about safeguarding the dignity of Bawang Assan while ensuring the continuity of development for its people.

It urged all grassroots leaders and party members to remain united and work diligently to earn the confidence of voters, adding that victory in Bawang Assan would contribute towards strengthening the mandate and stability of the GPS government.

The secretariat said political stability remains essential to sustaining development and protecting Sarawak’s rights and interests, stressing that these objectives can best be achieved through unity under the GPS banner.

“This is a battle from which we cannot retreat—and one we are determined to win,” it said.
