Elderly rider dies after motorcycle crashes into tree

SIBU: A 63-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle accident after the motorcycle he was riding is believed to have gone out of control before crashing into a tree and skidding into a roadside ditch along Jalan Pahlawan here.

The victim, Peh Ho Kian, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from Sibu Hospital after suffering severe injuries.

Sibu District Police Chief, ACP Abang Zainal Abidin, said preliminary investigations revealed that the accident occurred at about 12:55 pm on Wednesday (July 8) while the victim was travelling from the town centre towards Jalan Pahlawan.

“Upon reaching the scene, the motorcycle is believed to have gone out of control before colliding with a tree on the left side of the road and skidding into a ditch,” he said today.

He added that the victim’s body was taken to the Forensic Unit of Sibu Hospital for a post-mortem examination and further action.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
