KUCHING: Sarawak civil servants must evolve from policy implementers into gatekeepers and facilitators of data-driven development to keep the state at the forefront of digital transformation.
State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki said the shift in role requires civil servants to be resilient, adaptable and committed to continuously enhancing their digital skills, data literacy and ability to think critically and innovatively.
“This requires resilience, a willingness to embrace change and a commitment to lifelong learning.
“Members of the Sarawak Civil Service must continue to strengthen their digital skills and data literacy while developing the ability to think critically and innovatively in navigating an increasingly complex and technology-driven global environment,” he said this in his 2026 Sarawak Day message, as reported by UKAS today (July 21).
Abu Bakar also urged civil servants to embrace the 3R principles — Revisit, Rethink and Recharge — to ensure the public sector remains agile in adapting to change and meeting the demands of digital transformation.
He said the next five years are expected to be more challenging but expressed confidence that teamwork, integrity and strong commitment would enable the Sarawak Civil Service to further strengthen its role as the state’s main driver of development.
He also reminded the public that Sarawak Day commemorates the historic occasion when, for the first time, a Sarawakian assumed the highest leadership of the Sarawak government on July 22, 1963.
He said the occasion symbolises the struggle of past leaders to safeguard the state’s rights, dignity and future.
