DEBAK: An ageing maternal and child health facility here dating back to the 1970s will make way for a new RM11 million two-storey facility.
The Debak Health Clinic project will also include a dental clinic, administrative space and meeting rooms to improve healthcare facilities for residents in the area.
Saribas assemblyman Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam said preliminary works began on Monday (Aug 17), while demolition of the existing wooden Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Unit is expected to begin next week.
In a news report by TVS, he said the state-funded project, implemented through the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA), is expected to be completed within 20 months.
“During the construction period, MCH services will be temporarily relocated to an upgraded building behind the Debak Health Clinic.
“We hope the project can be completed according to schedule so that local residents can enjoy better healthcare facilities,” he said.
Mohammad Razi, who is also Deputy Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister, had earlier attended a briefing by the Betong Public Works Department (PWD) on the project’s implementation.
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), he also visited the project site to review its current progress.
