KUCHING: The initial proposed name for the new State Legislative Assembly (DUN) constituency under the Santubong parliamentary constituency will be called Sejinjang.
This differs from the latest proposal by the Election Commission (EC), which lists the constituency as Pasir Pandak.
Pantai Damai assemblyman Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the name Sejinjang was seen as more comprehensive in representing the area, while also carrying historical value and a distinct identity that was closely associated with the local community.
“The initial proposed name for the new constituency was Sejinjang, not Pasir Pandak.
“The name Sejinjang had also been included in discussions at the earlier stage,” he said in a report by TVS yesterday (Sept 1).
Dr Abdul Rahman cited this when commenting on the proposed name for the new DUN constituency following the Review of the Boundaries of Electoral Divisions in Sarawak currently being conducted by the EC.
For the record, yesterday (1 Sept) the EC began displaying its proposed new electoral boundaries for Sarawak for public inspection, including a proposal to create 17 new DUN constituencies.
The proposal would increase the number of Sarawak DUN seats from 82 to 99, while the new constituency proposed under the Santubong parliamentary constituency was listed as N.06 Pasir Pandak.
The public display will be held for one month until Sept 30, 2026, to allow stakeholders including voters and relevant parties to examine the proposal and submit representations, objections or views to the EC in accordance with the prescribed procedures.
Dr Abdul Rahman, however, stressed that the proposed name was still under consideration and any decision on the naming of the new constituency would have to take into account the official boundary delimitation process currently being carried out by the EC.
