KUCHING: Multiple organisations from the Pending area joined forces to distribute aid to those in need at a 2026 Year of the Fire Horse Chinese New Year charity event here Sunday.
The charity initiative, now in its third year, saw collaboration between several key community groups including the Kuching United Ladies Recreational Club, SUPP Pending Branch, KPCA Women Section, and the Pending Area JKKK, demonstrating the power of grassroots cooperation in serving those in need.
According to organising chairlady Kapitan Sim Bee Kim, the event brought together women’s groups from each community.

“This year’s charity drive successfully benefited 60 recipients, comprising 58 Chinese and two bumiputera community members, with each receiving food bags in preparation for Chinese New Year celebrations,” she said to reporters after the event at KPCA Hall this afternoon.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian who graced the event praised the organisers’ dedication.
“For many years, this annual charity programme has been consistently organised before Chinese New Year, bringing warmth and hope to those in need, and demonstrating the strong spirit of compassion and social responsibility among Sarawakians,” he said.
Dr Sim stressed that the inclusive nature of the initiative, which benefited recipients from different ethnic backgrounds, reflects Sarawak’s core principle that no one should be left behind.
“This reflects our commitment to inclusiveness and mutual respect in our multi-racial society,” he stated.
He noted that programmes like this not only extend assistance to those in need but also strengthen bonds among Sarawak’s diverse communities, truly embodying the Sarawak spirit of standing together in both prosperous and challenging times.
