MIRI: The state government has allocated RM710,526 to Sekolah Menengah Pei Min to support the school’s development and strengthen its role in producing the human capital needed for Sarawak’s continued progress.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, said the allocation reflected the state government’s commitment to strengthen education and nurturing future talent.
“What is important is that we nurture talent to take over and continue Sarawak’s development. The younger generation must be smarter, visionary and ready to contribute to the state,” he said.
He was speaking at the presentation of the allocation ceremony to the Chinese Private Secondary School here on Wednesday (Aug 26).
Dr Sim said the support extended to Chinese private secondary schools was not merely financial assistance, but part of a broader effort to ensure education continued to play a key role in developing Sarawak’s human capital.
He also encouraged students to take advantage of the growing educational opportunities in Sarawak, particularly in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine, to help meet the state’s future demand for professionals.
“The development of higher education in Miri also creates wider opportunities for Sarawakians to pursue education of global standards, including through potential collaborations with international institutions such as Fudan University,” he said.
Meanwhile, SM Pei Min Board of Management chairman Khor Ooi Long expressed appreciation to the Sarawak Government for its continued support, saying the allocation would help ease the school’s financial burden.
He said the assistance also reflected the state government’s recognition of the important role played by Chinese private secondary schools in developing human capital and providing a conducive learning environment.
