KUCHING: Two men with prior records found themselves back in police custody after they were arrested over the alleged theft of vehicle components from Jalan Matang Metrocity, here.
The suspects, aged 26 and 29, were arrested separately during a two-hour operation in Kuching and Padawan on Tuesday (Aug 25).
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the arrests were made by a team from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) following a report lodged over the theft on Aug 24.
The arrests also led police to seize a sales receipt and two tyres, which is being kept as evidence for further investigation.
Background checks found that both suspects had several prior criminal records.
The suspects are being remanded for four days to facilitate further investigations under Section 379A(1) of the Penal Code, which covers the theft of vehicle components.
If convicted, they may face a jail term of up to seven years and may also be fined.
