MUKAH: Two local men, who apparently caught police attention with their suspicious behaviour, ended up testing positive for drugs during a narcotics operation in town, here.
The 47-year-old labourer and 32-year-old trader were detained by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) at around 11am yesterday (Aug 26).
Although an initial search found no illicit items on either suspect, police were not satisfied with their behaviour and brought them to the district police headquarters (IPD) for further checks.
Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said urine tests subsequently returned positive results for both amphetamine and methamphetamine.
“They are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for abusing drugs.
“If convicted, they face a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to two years, as well as police supervision under the relevant provisions of the law,” he said.
Both men are being held at Mukah police lock-up to assist investigations.
Rizal said police would continue intensifying efforts to curb drug abuse and trafficking in the district.
