MIRI: Telecommunications infrastructure in Saeh, Niah, has been significantly disrupted following the theft of copper cables from a telecommunications tower near the Tuai Rumah Sikun longhouse.
The incident has led to widespread communication interruptions affecting several longhouses in the area.
Ayai Sawing, a longhouse chief, reported that the theft was discovered today, though it is believed to have occurred two to three days ago.
“The theft of the cable from the telecommunications tower has caused severe disruptions.
“Now, most of the houses in the Saeh line internet zone are without service,” Ayai said.
The impact of the theft has been felt deeply by the local community, which relies heavily on these telecommunications services for both personal and business communications.
Residents have also expressed frustration and concern over the incident.
One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, condemned the theft, describing it as a “vile act.”
“Stealing seems to be the easiest way for some to make money, but it has dire consequences for the rest of us,” the resident remarked.
Local authorities are investigating the theft and have urged anyone with information to come forward.
The community hopes for a swift resolution and the restoration of their telecommunications services.
