MIRI: Deputy Minister in the Premier of Sarawak’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala suffered a devastating loss this morning as his residence in Kampung Pa Umor, Bario, was engulfed in a destructive fire.
The flames ravaged through the home, reducing it to ashes.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department Zone 6, both the police and the fire department were promptly notified, mobilising their teams to provide assistance.
Police officers and firefighters are en route to the scene, to lend their expertise and support in managing the aftermath of the devastating incident.
The exact cause of the blaze remains unknown.
An investigation is already underway to determine the circumstances that led to the fire outbreak.
The fire that engulfed Gerawat’s residence is believed to have occurred in the early hours of this morning.
The New Sarawak Tribune made attempts to reach Gerawat for his comment on the incident, to no avail.
It was reported that Gerawat who is also Mulu assemblyman was en route to the scene of the fire, where he was expected to assess the situation firsthand.
The village is located in proximity to the Indonesian border, just a few kilometers away.
