KUCHING: Kuching City FC U20 head coach Firdaus Morshidi has called for greater consistency in communication, chemistry and transition play despite his side’s 4-1 friendly win over Hope FC.

While pleased with the overall performance last weekend, Firdaus stressed that there is still significant room for improvement as the young squad continues its development.

“When it comes to satisfaction, not really. But I am happy with what we planned from the start of the second half.

“We still need to improve a lot of things,” he told Sarawak Tribune when contacted recently.

Among the key areas highlighted were unit defending and attacking, communication, the speed of transition between defence and attack, as well as the importance of team chemistry and compatibility.

Firdaus also emphasised the importance of discipline in the final third, urging his players to make better decisions when in attacking positions.

“When we are in the attacking zone, at least a minimum of three players must be inside the box.

“More communication, don’t be shy. Show me and the team what you all have trained in finishing,” he said.

The coach also made several halftime adjustments, including four personnel changes after identifying players who were not executing the game plan effectively. However, he maintained the team’s formation structure.

“At halftime, we changed four players who were not performing well according to our plan,” he explained.

Firdaus added that his message to the players was to remain calm in possession, especially as the match was still goalless at that stage, and to avoid rushing their play.

He also issued a strong reminder about squad competition, urging every player to fight for a place in the starting XI.

“Everyone is waiting for a chance to play in the first 11. Give everything,” he said.

He noted that internal competition and better execution of training principles will be key as the team prepares for the President Cup campaign.
