MIRI: Police arrested five local men for burglary at a church in Miri last month (March), during which musical equipment and other valuables were reportedly stolen.

The suspects, all believed to be in their 20s and 30s, were detained on Tuesday (Apr 15 ) in a series of coordinated raids across Taman Tunku and Bekenu.

Among the items recovered during the operation were a mixer amplifier player, a JBL Control SB-5 speaker, and a Santa Cruz guitar fitted with a pickup.

These items are believed to have been taken during the March break-in.

Authorities also impounded two vehicles — a saloon car and a Perodua Kancil — which are suspected to have been used by the group to flee the scene following the burglary.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking and theft, which carries a prison sentence of up to 14 years upon conviction.
