MIRI: A foreign man was arrested for allegedly misusing his social visit pass to collect donations without proper authorisation on Wednesday (Feb 4).
The Sarawak Immigration Department said he was picked up by the Miri Immigration Enforcement Division following an operation conducted in the district.
Further checks found that the suspect had been soliciting donations without authorisation, and a total of RM194 in cash was seized as evidence.
Preliminary finding indicated that the suspect had abused a valid social visit pass to engage in activities prohibited under immigration laws.
The department reminded that holders of such passes are only permitted to enter the country for tourism or short-term visits.
As such, they are not allowed to carry out any fundraising or other unauthorised activities.
The case is being investigated under Section 8(3)(g) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 for breaching pass conditions.
Members of the public are urged to continue sharing information on suspicious activities involving foreigners to help safeguard security and uphold the law in Miri.
