MIRI: Several roads in central Miri will be closed or subject to traffic diversions on Tuesday (25 August) to facilitate the Maulidur Rasul 1448H/2026M procession, police have announced.
The procession is scheduled to begin at 7 am and is expected to finish at about 10 am, with road closures and diversions starting from 6.30 am.
Police said the affected roads include Jalan Merdu, Jalan Sylvia, Jalan Merbau, Jalan Merpati and Jalan Kipas.
Several junctions and traffic points will also be affected, including the Jalan Bintang-Jalan Merdu junction, Jalan Merdu-Jalan Sylvia junction, Jalan Post-Jalan Sylvia junction and Jalan Parry-Jalan Sylvia junction.
Traffic control will also be implemented along Jalan Sylvia, Jalan North Yu Seng and its connecting junctions, as well as at the Kipas roundabout towards Jalan Kipas.
The procession will cover a route of about 2 km, starting from Dewan Surau before proceeding through Jalan Merdu, Jalan Sylvia, Jalan Merbau, Jalan North Yu Seng, Jalan Merpati and Jalan Kipas, before returning to Dewan Surau.
Police said the affected roads are expected to reopen progressively from about 10 am, depending on traffic conditions and the movement of the procession.
Motorists have been advised to cooperate with police personnel and comply with traffic directions to ensure the procession proceeds smoothly.
Members of the public are also advised to plan their journeys in advance and use alternative routes, including the Miri-Pujut route and Jalan Permaisuri.
Police specifically advised motorists to avoid Jalan Sylvia, Jalan Merbau and Jalan North Yu Seng during the affected period.
