KOTA SAMARAHAN: A male motorcyclist has died while his female pillion rider sustained minor injuries after their bike collided with a car at KM14, Jalan Kota Samarahan/Tabuan Jaya in the early hours of Friday.

Kota Samarahan District police chief Superintendent Damataries Lautin said the accident occurred at 12.33 am.

“Initial investigations found that the car driver, a 21-year-old man, was travelling from Kuching towards Taman Samarindah.

“When he reached the traffic light junction and proceeded on a green light, his vehicle was suddenly struck by a motorcycle coming from the right,” he said in a statement.

Damataries said as a result of the accident, the 30-year-old motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, while his pillion rider, a 24-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries.

“The car driver was unharmed. However, the front sides of both vehicles were damaged,” he said.

“At the time of the incident, the weather was clear and the road surface was flat and dry.

Meanwhile, the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Police also confirmed that the accident site was revisited for inspection, and the vehicles were sent to the Kota Samarahan Traffic Police Station.
