New chapter begins for Miri City Council with 14 fresh faces

MIRI: A total of 32 councillors have been appointed to the Miri City Council, heralding a new era of governance with 14 new faces set to join the ranks.

The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Miri City Council building, was officiated by Deputy Premier cum Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Among the fresh appointees are representatives from various political parties, including six members each from Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), along with three from Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) and two from Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS).

The new councillors, who are bringing a diverse array of perspectives and expertise, include Yusri Ahmad Lai, Abin Galieh @ Aden, and Lilla Raja @ Lilla Wong, Thian Siew Lan, Sim Cheng Tiong, Chai Woei Yih, Yee Chung Meng, Hiung Chien Yih, Lau Sie Nguong, Mudin Epui @ Mudin Mekir, Andrew Lee Salin, Lian Tarawe, Eliza Sherance Jamba, and Franklin Kesong.

The council’s existing leadership also sees continuity, with Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang’s tenure extended until March 2026. His deputy, Ariffin Mohamad, alongside the other councillors, is set to serve until March 2028.

The list of reappointed councillors includes Tan Lek Jin, Romulus Charles Agan Raja, Toh Kah Shiong, Leslie Lau Ik Chie, Huang Huat Choon, Yeo Zhi Chao, Jenny Crystal Mansang, Yu Ley Ha, Raymond Jenang, Saliha Basri, Chia Kah Leong, Jamil Bujang, Huang Hong Siong, Rahim Unsang, Ugat Wan @ Jalong Wan, and Flora Usun Lanyau.
