Opar rep allocates big budget for education

LUNDU: Opar Assemblyman, Billy Sujang, announced several initiatives in the education sector during the Project of Dreams Realised (PRO-DR) Roadshow 2025 held at SMK Lundu Hall, in which Lundu District was selected as the final location of the roadshow.

In his speech, Billy affirmed that education is the key to the state’s future and urged students to seize the opportunities provided by the PRO-DR Roadshow to strengthen their knowledge, digital skills, and career planning with confidence.

“You, dear students, are the state’s most valuable assets because the future of Sarawak depends on your efforts, discipline, and spirit,” he said during the programme opening ceremony here on Friday.

At the same time, he announced several major projects, including an allocation of RM200,000 for upgrading the dining hall of SMK Lundu, which is currently under construction; RM150,000 for repair works for the school hall’s backstage; as well as an additional RM150,000 for upgrading of the dining hall kitchen of the school , through allocation under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP).

As for primary schools, Billy said an allocation of RM350,000 for Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sebako has been approved for the construction of new teachers’ quarters, along with upcoming plans for a major project to rebuild the school’s block at the cost of RM5 million through funding from the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA), which would be finalised at the GKCDA meeting on August 28.

In terms of technology and skills development, he also allocated RM15,000 to establish a T&T Mini Lab at SMK Lundu – an innovative learning platform aimed at nurturing a generation of more creative, innovative, and competitive students.

The 10th edition of the PRO-DR Roadshow successfully gathered more than 30 institutions and agencies that have provided students with exposure to educational pathways, TVET, science and technology, professional training, and 21st-century skills.

In concluding his speech, Billy expressed appreciation to TEGAS, the schools, the District Education Office, department heads, and the local community who contributed to the success of the PRO-DR Roadshow 2025.
