KUCHING: Sarawak and China are looking to further strengthen their strategic relations, including exploring new areas of cooperation for mutual benefit.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg received a courtesy call from Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching Xing Weiping at his office here today (Sept 1).

During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, reflecting the continued strengthening of relations between Sarawak and China.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss closer collaboration and explore new avenues of cooperation between both sides.

Xing was accompanied by Vice Consul General Song Changhong, Consul Zeng Haoyao, as well as Vice-Consuls Zhan Haoyu and Gao Xiaoyu.

Also present were Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak (MINTRED) permanent secretary Datuk Lester Matthew; Sarawak Climate and Energy Diplomacy Unit (SACED) director Dr Angelia Liew San Chuin; and Ministry of Transport Sarawak (MOTS) deputy permanent secretary Mohamad Lotfi Tuah.
