Freed Malaysians celebrate their release from detention today.

SIEM REAP: The Sarawak government has secured the release of the 40 Sarawakians and seven other Malaysians who had been detained in Poipet, Cambodia.

MP Santubong Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar confirmed the 47 Malaysians detained in Banteay Meanchey are being released.

He thanked the Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen for his assistance in securing their release.

“Cambodian Senior Minister in Special Mission Datuk Othsman Hassan received instructions from Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen to release them,” he told New Sarawak Tribune, today.

He said flight arrangements and documentation were underway to take them home.

“This shows the good relationship between our diplomatic relationship between the two countries,” he said.

He said the delegates were supposed to go back tomorrow, but they will extend their stay to go back to Siem Reap to meet the victims.
