KUCHING: The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) is assessing the cost of infrastructure repairs affected by the disaster to ensure that recovery efforts can be carried out swiftly and effectively.
Deputy Premier and SDMC Chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said he has instructed all Divisional Disaster Management Committees (DDMC) to submit a complete list of heads of households who have relocated to temporary relief centres (PPS) to the SDMC by the end of this week at the latest.
“In line with this, all agencies are reminded to remain prepared with their assets and logistics under their respective responsibilities to face any potential disasters, especially the second wave of floods.”
“Divisional Residents and District Officers are also told to ensure a swift and effective response in handling flood situations as they arise,” he said in his recent statement.
He said this following a meeting on the latest flood situation in Sarawak.
He also urged all citizens to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions.
“The public is also advised to make early preparations in case they are instructed to evacuate to a safe location during a disaster,” he said.
At the time of this writing, a total of 79 PPS have been opened due to floods and landslides, covering the divisions of Kuching, Samarahan, Serian, Betong, Sibu, Kapit, Mukah, Bintulu, and Miri. Of these, 38 PPS have been closed, while 41 remain active, accommodating 2,799 heads of households (KIR) and 9,482 evacuees.
