KUCHING: Over sixty students from Tunku Putra-HELP International School had the unique opportunity to gain insights into the world of journalism from a seasoned media professional during a special talk held today.

Sarawak Tribune (ST) Editor-in-Chief, Aden Nagrace, delivered a one-hour session focused on the fundamentals of news writing, aiming to equip and inspire students participating in the school’s annual Gala Event.

Aden delivers his talk.

Running from May 21 to 23, the Gala Event highlights student talents and interests across five main categories: Sports and Fitness, Adventure and Skills, Academic and Community, Artistic and Creativity, and Event Reporting.

With over three decades of experience in the journalism industry, Aden shared not only technical aspects of news writing but also his personal journey into the field.

He revealed that his career path began as a temporary teacher, but he was eventually drawn to journalism, finding it to be a calling that combined his love for storytelling, curiosity, and public service.

“Journalism is not just about reporting events; it’s about making sense of them and giving people the information they need to understand the world around them,” he told the students.

His session focused on key journalism principles such as accuracy, objectivity, clarity, and the importance of credible sources.

He also provided practical tips on writing leads, structuring news stories, and conducting interviews -valuable tools for students preparing for the Event Reporting category.

The talk ended with a Q&A session, where students asked questions about real-world journalism challenges and how to develop their own writing voice.
