KUCHING: The newly opened Tabuan Jaya Health Clinic is expected to ease pressure on Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and existing public health facilities by expanding access to primary healthcare for residents in Kuching, Samarahan and surrounding areas.

The Type 2 clinic is designed to serve between 800 and 1,000 patients daily, strengthening the state’s primary healthcare network by treating common illnesses and chronic diseases at the community level, reducing unnecessary visits to major hospitals.

“The opening of the Tabuan Jaya Health Clinic is not merely the launch of a new building, but a practical solution to the long standing challenges of long queues and difficulties faced by people seeking medical treatment,” said Saberkas Batu Lintang branch’s secretary, Wilson Tan.

For years, many patients seeking public healthcare in Kuching have relied on SGH and the Tanah Putih Health Clinic, resulting in overcrowding, long waiting times and increased pressure on emergency and specialist services.

According to a press release, the new facility is expected to function as a key referral point for non-emergency cases, allowing SGH to focus more on patients requiring specialist and critical care while easing congestion at older primary healthcare facilities.

Staffed by 179 medical and administrative personnel, including 28 doctors, the clinic also offers a wider range of services than a standard neighbourhood health clinic.

Among its key features are resident Family Medicine Specialists, enabling patients with chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension to receive specialist follow-up care within the community instead of travelling to major hospitals.

The clinic is also equipped with X-ray facilities, clinical laboratories and a full pharmacy, allowing consultations, diagnostic tests and medication collection to be completed in a single visit.

In addition, it provides maternal and child healthcare services, antenatal care, childhood immunisation programmes and dental services, offering a comprehensive healthcare hub for families, senior citizens and children.

Located in one of Kuching’s fastest growing residential and commercial areas, the clinic is expected to serve the expanding populations of Tabuan Jaya, Stutong and neighbouring Samarahan, where demand for public healthcare has increased alongside rapid housing development.

“The clinic’s strategic location will also benefit students and staff of nearby institutions such as UNIMAS and UiTM by providing them with easier access to affordable healthcare services,” Tan said.
