MIRI: Women patrons at the Central Market and the Open Air Market here received a special gesture of appreciation on International Women’s Day today.
Members of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Piasau Mobile Service Team distributed roses to them to honour and celebrate their contributions to the local society.
The annual tradition was initiated by SUPP Piasau Chairman cum Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew.
As Ting is currently abroad on official duties, his service team took the initiative to distribute the flowers on his and the party’s behalf.
A total of 120 bouquets were handed out during the programme.
Beyond the floral tribute, the service team also provided advisory services at Miri Central Market, to assist the public in resolving various issues.
City Council member and SUPP Piasau Publicity Secretary, Tan Lek Jin, noted that around 50 people sought guidance on the Senior Citizen Health Benefit scheme and welfare assistance under the Kenyalang Gold Card.
“The Sarawak Government has implemented various welfare policies, particularly the Sarawak Senior Citizen Health Scheme and benefits under the Kenyalang Gold Card, to ensure that more elderly residents understand and access healthcare coverage and assistance provided by the State,” he said.
