Five ex-prisoners benefit from LIFE assistance

KUCHING: The third batch of Low Income Family Empowerment (LIFE) assistance has benefited five former prisoners with support worth RM23,810.80.

The handover ceremony was officiated by Sarawak Prisons director Teyun Thian Eim at his office today.

Each recipient received capital aid based on their skills, such as grocery supplies, welding tools, agricultural equipment, and air-conditioner maintenance kits.

The LIFE programme is run by the Ministry of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development (KPWK) through the Sarawak Social Development Council (MPS).

Muhammad Yazid Lihi received RM4,015.50 to start a small grocery business in his local community.

Muhd Shahrulnyzam Sahat was granted RM4,900 to support his farming activities with essential agricultural tools.

Meanwhile, Zulfiker Mohd Fauzi and Mohamad Zuhaire each received over RM4,900 for their air-conditioning maintenance businesses.

Additionally, Ahmad Maarof was given RM4,981 in welding equipment to restart his livelihood post-release.

This marks the third LIFE distribution conducted at the Sarawak Prison Department since the programme began in October 2024.
