KUCHING: A local man believed to be harbouring undocumented foreigners was among 11 people arrested during a raid near Penrissen Camp today (Aug 11).
The 46-year-old was picked up by the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Division following public complaints and intelligence surveillance.
In the operation dubbed ‘Ops Serkap’, immigration officers descended on the parking lot of Masjid Solahuddin Al-Ayubi at 8.30 am, a location suspected to be a gathering point for migrants.
The Sarawak Immigration Department said checks found that 10 of them were Indonesians without valid travel documents.
They were detained for offences under the Section 6(1)(c) and 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for entering Malaysia without a valid pass and overstaying.
Meanwhile, the local suspect is being investigated under Section 55E of the same Act, which carries penalties for harbouring undocumented migrants.
All detainees were taken to the Kuching Immigration Office for further investigation.
The department urged the public to continue channelling information on such activities as community cooperation remains a powerful tool in dismantling illegal immigration networks.
