KUCHING: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening education infrastructure through hands-on leadership during a site visit to SMK DPHA Gapor.

The visit was conducted in conjunction with the implementation of two Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) projects, involving officers from the Public Works Department (JKR), contractors and school representatives.

“These projects show that listening to schools, planning carefully and delivering on promises are essential to ensuring students learn in safe, dignified and supportive environments,” said Yap.

He was accompanied by JKR officers, appointed contractors and SMK DPHA Gapor principal William Tedong, who was present for both project handovers.

“For RTP Project 2023, the visit marked the official handover of the completed project to the school for maintenance purposes.

“The RM150,000 project involved the construction of a new toilet block aimed at improving hygiene, safety and comfort for students and teaching staff.

“The upgraded facilities are expected to contribute to a healthier, more conducive learning environment, addressing long-standing concerns raised by the school community.”

Yap expressed appreciation to JKR, contractor Syarikat Muqriz and the school management for their professionalism and cooperation.

He noted that the timely completion of the project demonstrated effective coordination, ensuring public funds were translated into tangible benefits for students.

During the same visit, he also witnessed the handover of the Letter of Appointment and project site for RTP Project 2024 to contractor Syarikat Bumi Waja.

“With an allocation of RM200,000, RTP Project 2024 covers upgrading and refurbishment of school facilities, including road resurfacing works within the school compound.

“The project is scheduled for completion by the third week of January 2026, ensuring minimal disruption to school activities.”

Yap stressed that both projects reflect continuous efforts to respond to feedback from schools, parents and the surrounding community.

He reaffirmed that the Sarawak government remains committed to upgrading education infrastructure so that no student is left behind.

“The initiatives demonstrate that effective representation is built on action, accountability and delivering measurable results for the people of Kota Sentosa.”
