MERADONG: Festive celebrations go beyond cultural or religious observances as it serves as a vital platform to nurture tolerance, mutual understanding and harmony in Sarawak’s multi-racial and multi-faith society.
Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing said he would continue to support community and cultural programmes organised by local associations, particularly those that promote unity among different races and religions in the constituency.
He said this at a Christmas celebration organised by the Central Sarawak Region Liu Kwee Tang Association last Saturday (Dec 27).
He expressed appreciation for all associations’ consistent efforts in organising activities that not only preserve cultural values and traditions, but also strengthen bonds and understanding within the community.
As a show of support, Ding announced a RM5,000 Minor Rural Project (MRP) special grant to the Central Sarawak Region Liu Kwee Tang Association to help fund its annual activities for 2026.
He said the contribution is expected to assist the association in planning and implementing more structured and impactful programmes that would benefit both its members and the local community.
Ding also reiterated his commitment as the people’s representative to continue supporting associations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that actively contribute to social development, cultural preservation and community harmony in Meradong.
