KUCHING: A 182-member Sarawak Scout contingent will represent the state at the 15th Malaysia Scout Jamboree in Batu Kawan, Penang.
According to a statement from the movement, the contingent comprises 119 junior and senior scouts, along with 63 scout leaders and service volunteers.
Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah presented the Sarawak flag to the contingent at his office here on Wednesday (Aug 26), ahead of their departure.
During the ceremony, Abdul Karim encouraged the scouts to use the jamboree as an opportunity to promote Sarawak to participants from across the country and abroad.
He suggested that they share the state’s attractions, including Mulu and Bario, while also organising activities with international participants.
The contingent is scheduled to leave for Penang tomorrow (Aug 28) and return to Sarawak on Sept 5.
The national jamboree will provide the Sarawak scouts with opportunities to take part in scouting activities while strengthening camaraderie, leadership and discipline among young people from across the country.
Also present at the flag presentation were Sarawak Chief Scout Commissioner John Lim Boon Beng, contingent leader Azrul Azeem Selamat, deputy chief commissioners, assistant chief commissioners and other officials.
The Sarawak Scout Council also expressed its appreciation to the Sarawak government for its continued support towards youth and scouting development in the state.
