SIBU: Two men died when the motorcycle they were riding collided head-on with a four-wheel drive vehicle in an accident-prone area of Jalan Sg Bidut.
The dead were identified as the rider of the bike, Lawrance Layau Muling, 27, and his pillion rider, Alexia Lanau, 26.
Sibu OCPD Assistant Commissioner Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said in the accident which happened a 9.36pm on Sunday (March 3), the 30-year driver of the four-wheel drive vehicle was on his way from Sungai Merah Bazaar to Sungai Bidut when the collision happened.
The duo died on the spot after the collision.
“Only the wife of the driver who was also in the vehicle with his daughter was injured and she has been admitted to the hospital for treatment,” he added.
Lawrence, he said, did not have a valid motorcycle riding licence. Both men were also jobless.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
