KUCHING: The Sarawak Collaborative Learning Interactive Experience (SCALE) will boost the state’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education by promoting hands-on learning that builds critical thinking and problem-solving skills among students.

Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the initiative enhances interactive learning while supporting teachers in lesson planning, tracking student development and providing more individualised guidance.

“Data from the Sarawak Dual Language Programme Assessment Test (UP-DLP), which monitors students’ progress, shows that science and mathematics performance still requires substantial effort to strengthen STEM education.

“Thus, by aligning UP-DLP findings with SCALE and other initiatives, we can offer more targeted and effective learning experiences.

“This includes widening STEM pathways with a 60 per cent participation target by 2030, supported through SCALE and strengthened teacher professional development,” he said.

Sagah was speaking at the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing involving the Sarawak government, Sarawak Teachers’ Aspirations Organisation and Arc Technologies Sdn Bhd at Dewan Santapan, DUN Sarawak today.

He said the MoU reflects a shared commitment to elevate the quality of education in the state.

“This collaboration shows how the government, educators and technology providers can work together to strengthen teaching and learning across Sarawak,” he added.

Sagah noted that SCALE is also poised to narrow learning gaps by ensuring equal access to resources and opportunities for students in both urban and rural areas.

He said students’ interest in digital applications and devices also provides an advantage in attracting participation in learning through SCALE.

“By using these technological tools, we hope to capture students’ interest, especially with its interactive features that allow them to engage directly with the screen to find answers.

“These are the skills we need for the future,” he said.
