KUCHING: It was a week of celebrations for Toto players after two massive jackpots amounting to RM89.2 million were won.
STM Lottery Sdn Bhd in a statement said the biggest prize went to a 53-year-old technician from Johor, who works in Singapore, when he claimed RM73.1 million from the Supreme Toto 6/58 jackpot draw on August 20.
The total jackpot stood at RM78.5 million.
Arriving at the STM Lottery head office in Kuala Lumpur with his wife and children, the lucky winner said he had chosen the numbers – 3, 6, 9, 12, 27 and 34 – based on his family members’ birthdates.
“I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw all six numbers matched. I was completely stunned. That night I couldn’t sleep at all. I kept thinking this is truly an answered prayer for me and my family,” he said.
The technician, who usually plays Toto 4D and Toto 6D, said he decided to try the Supreme Toto 6/58 after overhearing another player buy a Lucky Pick ticket.
He intends to use the windfall of RM73,125,073.90 to settle his housing loan, clear his debts and save for his children’s future.
Two other EZ-Bet winners from Selangor shared the remaining jackpot, pocketing RM2.1 million and RM3.3 million respectively.
One took home RM2,089,287.20 with an EZ-Bet 15 ticket and RM12,289.20 as EZ-Bet bonus, while the other pocketed RM3,323,866.60 with an EZ-Bet 12 ticket and RM12,252.85 as EZ-Bet bonus.
Both had also used family-related numbers as their winning picks.
Four days later, on August 24, fortune struck again in Johor when an 88-year-old retired teacher won the Toto 4D Jackpot 1 worth RM10.7 million.
His winning combination – 2588 and 8453 – was inspired by his age, his wife’s age and their house number, which he had faithfully bet on for years.
“At first I panicked and worried that I might have forgotten to place the bet. When I found the ticket and confirmed it, I was so relieved and overjoyed,” he said.
The retired teacher, who had previously won several hundred thousand ringgit in Sports Toto games, said he would share the RM10,662,034.95 prize with his family and donate a portion to charity.
